These strange times

Statement from David Loblaw, owner of Chocolate Regina Ltd.

At the end of the business day on Saturday, March 14, 2020, I made the decision to be one of the first retail businesses in Regina to 100% lock my front door to every walk-in customer due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Since that date, no one but I has been inside my shop.

Using hundreds of disposable gloves per day was not a change for my shop as it was standard procedure since I bought the shop in 2007. I did greatly increase the use of Isogel for my hands and cleaning products for the front door and outside counter.

It made me happy how quickly you chocolate lovers converted to website ordering and outside-the-door pickup. Thank you! I received comments from several people who said my website was their first online purchase of any kind and were surprised how darn easy it was.

Previously, my web sales were 10-25% of my total sales, depending on season, and, according to Shopify, a incredible rate for a small food retail business. I was so pleased how easily my shop transitioned into 100% web sales. (Well, there were still a few of you ordering by "telephone" :)

My heart goes out to the owners and employees of restaurants, coffee shops, and bars whose essence is one of social togetherness. Ordering from their websites will help a bit, but we want to soon to be elbow-to-elbow with our friends. They need us and we need them.

Here's to a happy summer!
